Before the Flood is a documentary film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Fisher Stevens. The soundtrack is a collaboration between Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, Gustavo Santaolalla, and Mogwai.
As a huge fan of Gustavo Santaolalla’s avant-garde instrumentation, I’m in my glory with this week’s release of Borrowed Time (Pixar short) and the soundtrack of Before the Flood.
I’ve long been a fan of Trent Reznor too — NIN and his film scores. Like his pitch perfect score for The Social Network — Reznor is good at creating musical superficiality with a rotten underpinning.
How to play Thin Ice by Gustavo Santaolalla
Thin Ice is a prime example of Gustavo Santaolalla’s ability to pick the low hanging fruit (of guitar riffs) while still being unbelievably creative.
The guitar tab is only two pages long and played straight through. I’ve made the guitar tab for Thin Ice as easy as possible to read.
You’re essentially playing a chord shape, which is a three note phrase played four times.. After each phrase I’ve placed four dots (. . . .) indicating that you’ll play that shape four times.
The final riff is a little bit tricky, but overall Thin Ice is easy to play. The guitar tab is available below:
